The Family Crest
The Crest was designed to represent the “ties that bind” us together as a family as represented by the Unbroken “Grand Chain” that links all of the names together.
The Bible symbolizes the head of our family, which is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It provides the foundation for love, marriage, children, family and all our needs.
The Light symbolizes the torch of wisdom that was lit by our ancestors and passed on to us so that we may continue to guide and direct our families.
The Dove represents the Holy Spirit and the peace we have within that sustains and makes us adaptable for all the changes that this life will bring.
The Scale of Balance represents truth and justice that we must render to all. It reminds us that we are all God’s children and are deserving of His rewards.
The Tree and its Six Branches symbolizes the seeds of this Great Family that have blossomed into a magnificent exemplification of love, life, and family.
Colors of the Crest
Red Represents the blood of our ancestors and the courage that they displayed in the face of oppression.
Black Represents our ethnicity and the Black Family as symbol of strength and balance in our communities.
Green Represents fertility and our natural ability to produce new life. For it was commanded by God that we “Be fruitful and increase in number.”
Blue Represents the tumultuous waters of the Middle Passage as our ancestors descended upon foreign lands.
Gold Represents our rich heritage and the prosperity that will be bestowed upon all of our children.
The crest was originally designed by Yvonne Campbell and the verses written by Jo Anne Hamilton Parks of East St. Louis for our 1999 Reunion in St. Louis. The Crest and Verses were revised in 2009 by Anthony B. Curtis, Jr for the 2009 Reunion in Tampa, FL.
