2009 Family Reunion Scholarship Award

Application Deadline:  July 15, 2009!

Our family values education and understand its significance in enhancing ones quality of life.  We established a scholarship to assist students as they transition to and through the halls of academia.  Assistance is contingent upon the financial resource available for that year.   Please participate in Family Reunion Fundraising by purchasing an ad for the souvenir, raffle tickets, or by making direct donations to our Scholarship Fund on the Family Reunion Website. Through these efforts, we will be able to provide more scholarships.

The Reunion Scholarship Award is reserved for descendants of the Barefield/Barfield, Clay, Claypool, Henderson, McClelland, and Woolfolk Families. The scholarship will be awarded during the Reunion Banquet. Individual interested in applying for this scholarship will need carefully review the criteria and submit a completed application .The Chairperson of the Family Reunion will establish a committee whose charge is to select a recipient(s) for the annual scholarship that meets the minimum requirements. 

 

                Requirements for the Reunion Scholarship

 

·        Applicant must attend the 2009 Family Reunion

·        Applicant must be a high school senior who has been accepted to a college, university, or vocational school or a college student that’s in good academic standing. Transcripts are required to prove your academic record. Proof of registration for courses for the upcoming academic year must be provided

·        Applicant must have a minimum GPA of a 2.8

·        Applicant must assist in raising funds for the scholarship by selling raffle tickets. Contact our Scholarship Chairperson, Cordelia Hill for more information.

·        Applicant is required to write a letter stating why he/she should be selected as the recipient of this scholarship.  The letter should include career ambitions, awards or special recognition, church, civic, and community involvement, and details of your family lineage (i.e., Nichole Hill, Daughter of Cordelia Hill, Grand-Daughter of Clydia Curtis (Barefield), Great-Grand-Daughter of Arlene Barfield). The letter should be typed, doubled-spaced, and limited to two pages.
